Most of us travel... a lot. We don't think twice about it... fire up the old laptop and look for the destination of our choosing.  Let's see...where are we going this time, sunny... snowy... family?  After deciding, it’s click, click and BAM... you’ve got yourself an airline ticket.  

Well, it's a little more complicated when you're traveling a shooting crew to a distant location. We've chosen a snowy, cold one.  (You could tell that by the previous pictures of our scouts, we want snow...and lots of it.)

There comes a time when one must move the circus to a different town... give the good folks down the road a chance to see what you got... now I'll be the first to say that stretching your wings is a must in our business.  It's the only way to see what challenges lie down the road... when you get too comfortable it's easy not to shake the boat.  Well, in my case, the boat's a shakin'... Not only are we gaining momentum with our Sogopro projects - but "my day job" has thrown me a curve ball.  

Hilarie and I had a another pitch meeting last week with a local investor here in Wilmington… let me tell you something folks, I was nervous going in… it's kind of surreal in a way… here we are asking for mountains of money from complete strangers and for them to trust us that we won't squander their hard earned capitol.  Our industry, like any other, has had their share of failures and believe me - these investors have done their research and know this - so they are somewhat skeptical coming into these meetings.  Also, the business side of our industry is kinda alien to mos

it's 3pm on a rainy, ugly [not that i mind] saturday, and with bill and ted's bogus journey playing as some background noise, i am finding it the magic hour to find some words...

It is currently 3 am while I'm writing this. It won't be posted till later because I always run everything I write past Kelly first. It's a good strategy. We all know Kelly is the brains of the operation, and having him as my censor friend (you know, the one who tells you if your outfit is ugly or if your breath stinks) has been my saving grace.

But anyway........

he might have been right.  If there's anything that I've learned about film financing over the years is that it's
really, really hard to do.  Most independent films are made using a combination of financing sources whose
investment return is a distant future hope when the film is actually shot. We are doing it differently.

With that said, the last few years have been kinda crazy… as you all know, the economy tanked…

I have a lot of best friends. People tend to tease me about this habit. Some say you can only have 1 best friend. But my life has been so divided up into separate little chapters, that it's hard to pick just one. It's a little like trying to pick your favorite film or book character of all time. I mean, what kinda book are we talking about??? Biography? I'm a sucker for Edna St. Vincent Millay or Carson McCullers. Novel? The Spaulding brothers in Dandelion Wine. Or Heathcliff in Wuthering Heights. Or hell, I'm still a geek for Anne of Green Gables.
