That is an awesome idea you guys!
I have recently got into the Japanese manga books and they're really cool. Lots of them are about pretty average things but you read from back to front which always confuses old people on the bus :D.
Also, Neil Gaiman has written lots of graphic novels, my favourite of his is 'The Graveyard Book' about a kid call Nobody that is adopted by ghosts - really good.

So guys are you going to Dragon con in Atlanta then???

This is such an awesome idea. :]]
I love how you're all branching out into so many different areas. There's always something new popping up and it's always a great work.

Really looking forward to this one. Good luck with it all. :]

I wish I had more input and cool ideas but I don't really know much about graphic novels!
And Hilarie, I don't think wizards and dragons are too similar... :)
You guys have never disappointed me and I am amazed at how many projects you can handle at once! Way to go!

I can't wait to see what you guys come up with!!
Also im not sure if you guys know this but Alicia Purdy Coutts pointed out on facebook a figure that looks like a ghost in the left corner at the 25-27 sec mark in the video! Pretty neat!!
Can't wait to see what you guys come up with next :)

'Coraline' by Neil Gaiman. It's about a little girl that goes through a door that leads to another apartment just like her own. There are parents in that house too and they want to keep her for themselves. There's an alternate world, kidnapping and even a naughty black cat!

Thrilling and creepy, but super-inventive and original. You will totally love it! You'd also like 'Stardust' and 'The Graveyard Book' by him as well.

Smiles,
Angie

So I was reading USA Today and I read that they are making Ray Bradbury's Fahreheit 451 into a graphic novel! I immediately thought of this vlog and couldn't wait to get home and tell y'all. I am pretty sure it's going to be epic. Keep an eye out for it!

Good day to you! I wanted to pass along a tweet that I just read. Apparently, Ray Bradbury's Farenheit 451 was just released as a graphic novel! Let's go pick that one up! Guaranteed to be an excellent read!!!

WOW this is so cool! Comics, or to be politically correct Graphic novels are awesome. I've never been a huge fan but i really admire the work and effort that goes in to making them.

Dont know to many cept the really famous ones but i always enjoyed the Buffy comics. Dark, cemetaries and vampires whats not to like right!?

Good luck with this guys and i cant wait to see how it all turns out!

Very interesting...I want to know more about it. Personally not a big comic person myself...although I do not have anything against them...I just remain neutral. I did read a Jodi Picoult book once that had like a comic interspersed throughout the book. That was a cool way to present the story in different ways.

So you mentioned tv show in this vlog. I'm guessing you originally thought tv show, but then changed gears and decided to go with graphic novel...since the project lended itself to that format...and then also the whole "why the heck not?" attitude. :) Am I right in that thinking?

You just always leave us wanting more...I am really wanting to know what the subject matter is about!

dinotopia3danna's picture

We've come a long way since William Shakespeare. He had to write and act in his own plays. If I was him, I'd do the same too :-D But anyway graphic novel sounds like a good idea. I have a manuscript ready and I think it's a great idea to make it a comic novel. Good luck to you folks. :-D

I've been to the Motor City Comic-Con a couple of times and it was fun and I'll be at the Wizard World Chicago Comic-Con this coming Saturday. I'm glad you're entering the comic book world, it seems like the place to be!

I was almost too distracted to listen because I was staring at the statue on the table behind Hilarie. Haha! I used to geek out on graphic novels when I was younger but I honestly couldn't tell you any of the names of them, its been too long. Most of them were anime/amnga style type of things. I can't wait to see where you guys go with this.

maygen_lauren's picture

i think i will sit back and wait for this one to work its way out a bit. where are you going with this?

Bellatrix's picture

omg I love Fables! it's one of my fav comics. and i love graphic novels, i just read Heroes and X Men - Phoenix rising.
You guys are always full of surprises!

Hil & nick, the wheels in your brains never stop turning eh? What a great idea for SoGoPro! I have never read graphic novels but I'm already intrigued! =)

dana16's picture

Haha Hil you do love your wizardry and who can blame you there..I think this is a really good secret reveal love the sound of the new project..I am sorry I have not read much in the genre of graphic novels so my input won't really help but I am gonna start during my summer reading too lol!!

Two of my FAVORITE and dark/innovative graphic novelists are both WOMEN are Phoebe Gloeckner and Julie Doucet. If you want to start out at a novice point or just get some more insight into the medium of graphic novels, "Understanding Comics: The Invisible Art" by Scott McCloud is a good place to start.

SO excited to see all of the projects!

ValerieL's picture

what an exciting new adventure SoGoPro is taking on i have to say when i saw the tweet this morning i didn't think it was this kind of "graphic" novel but the tittle of the vlog did clear it up for me. thanks for the info about the project and im glad i can be in the know of all the endeavors y'all will share with us. good luck with the summer reading list.

This Is An Awesome Idea Guys, And You Both Definitely Have The Heads To Do Something Like This. I Know It especially After Hilarie Shared Her Novel With Us. Very Creative Minds! I Can't wait And I Hope We Get To Join You Every Step Of The Way. I Like Alan Moore And frank Miller's graphic Novels. sin city Was Turned Into A Movie and It turned Out Awesome. One Of My Faves. Im Sure You Guys Will Come Up With Something Great And Totally Unique. Thanks For Including Us. Cant Wait For More. "When You Think You Can't Make A Difference, remember, One Raindrop Raises The Ocean".

Always,

Persepolis is a really good one I had to read it for my lit class in college and it was really good totally unexpected for me because i had never really been into graphic novels.

Umm, around the 26th second, what is that in the top left corner? It's freaky looking.

Also, this sounds really cool you guys! I've never read a graphic novel, but if I could get this, I definitely would! Good luck with it.

A lot of the real classic graphic novels have been made into movies. V For Vendetta is a really great story; Frank Miller's Dark Knight Returns kick-started Batman again and probably defined the graphic novel, and had really good art.

The full run of Neil Gaiman's Sandman comic books have been released as a series of graphic novels; they are a great combination of story and art.

Like everything else you guys have planned, this sounds like a great idea. I'm looking forward to all of it :)

Cecily's picture

That sounds so great! I read a graphic novel for a book group called "Persepolis" by Marjane Satrapi recently which was great! Its also been turned into a film but its an autobiography, the author was born in Iran...so deals with quite heavy stuff! It was such an interesting read though and not at all what I'd expected from a graphic novel!

Estel's picture

It would be fanfreakintastic to read a southern gothic novel in a graphic novel format. As far as great graphic novels, I love, "The Crow" by James O'barr and Faye Perozich's adaptation of Anne Rice's, "The Vampire Lestat".

George's picture

Great extension of SoGoPro portfolio, can't wait to get more info :)

OMG! was this filmed at hilaries house?
because if it was i think i see her ghost! at 0:26 in the top left corner..

Such a great idea! :)

You guys should check out Ghost World, it's amazing.

It's actually a movie now, but it was based on the comic first ;)

KEMattison's picture

I'm really excited about this new SoGoPro endeavor, because I feel like I completely missed the boat when it came to learning about comics and graphic novels, and since geek is the new chic I'm completely out of the loop! My team missed two questions in trivial pursuit last night as a result of not being in the know about comics! SoGoPro, teach me a little something something, please :)

~Kaitlin

WOW! i definitely didn't see that coming. very cool, though. you guys always have the best ideas, and i can't wait to see what you come up with.

Ya'll are always surprising me. To start a graphic novel is a great idea. Check out Stardust by Neil Gaimen, art by Charles Vess. It is amazing. I think it was actually released as a feature film not too long ago.

Hi guys!

I'm SO totally psyched that you're creating a graphic novel, I love reading comic books, I used to read the Buffy The Vampire Slayer ones all the time.

I think they are genius. An interesting story, with added artsy drawings to go with it, they can be read by pretty much anyone, and there are so many choises it's mind boggling. I love it.

Emma.

Hey guys!!!

First I just want to say that I am SOO thrilled that you will be doing a graphic novel! I love to geek out on things like that. Personally, I am a webcomics person though, but those often get put together into books, so I am going to send you to a few of my favorites because I don't know what you're looking for (style, personality, etc) so just a couple that I REALLY highly recommend checking out.

More artsy, great story... check out...

Hey guys thats a cool idea!! I LOVE comics - Ive been into comics since I was a little girl growing up with a big brother that collected them. Some great titles are Watchmen, Sin City, The Dark Knight Returns, Alice In Sunderland, Black Hole and Bone by Jeff Smith(mixes the look and humour of early disney movies with the actions of the Lord of the Rings....I love LOTR). You guys should check out the Manga genre (japanese), maybe you will get inspired on art or format.

Can't wait to see what you guys come up with - I love how you share your ideas with everyone! Thanks!!!! E.C.

Well, my experience with comics...errr, Graphic Novels, pretty much peaked with Archie and Calvin and Hobbes back in......1993?? Maybe?? But, hey, I'm an English major. It could be nice to read something other than Susanna Rowson or Henry James ;)

Looking forward to it~

Have a great day- jen

Always exciting news coming from the friendly faces of SGP. Personally I haven't ever really delved to deep into the world of graphic novels but this is the perfect reason to start!
I'll start looking around and will be sure to send along any fun things I find over here in Boston :)

Thanks for working so hard, you give us all such wonderful projects to look forward to.

Keep it up!

Hi guys,

YOU NEVER STOP!!! You always think about smart and original things!
Always a new idea, but this one is really really awesome. It could be interesting that you turn some of your webisodes into graphic novels, and then it could be really great to buy them on your website...
I'm looking forward to watching how this project will evolve. Pretty cool, guys!

Best greetings, and have a very nice week-end
Nadège, from France

Whoa, guys, when you said new project I did not see this coming. This is awesome! I'm not really a graphic novel girl but only because I've never bothered to get into it. Maybe that'll change soon ;)
I'm very very excited to see what you come up with :)
Way to go!!!

Marie

Ps. I like this guy :)
