Unemployed

kt's picture

Today was my first day of unemployment... (ok, still getting calls about Loss & Damage - just not getting paid to sort it out) it happens at the end of each season of the show or movie depending on which you're working on.  I've been going full throttle for 10 months now and because we shot episode 722 in Utah I didn't get the usual ease into wrap.  This time... flew back to Wilmington and wrapped quickly... had to be done in a little over a week.  So we sprinted the last week to finish and now I'm done.  This business is a little weird like that... I mean you work really hard and then you're not working.  Most industry folks are freelance - bustin' *** when you are working, recovering then looking for work.  Since I got on OTH, I've been kept busy 10 months or so out of the year... some would say that having 6 weeks off is a blessing and I agree it is.  However, when you work the long hours plus phone calls at all hours of the night and on the weekends you get a little wonkey and need those weeks off to recover.

I find myself a little defensive this first day off and maybe a little cranky... on Sunday my mind was set to get up early (Monday) and get the day started... so I texted (don't you just love texting, you can't hear folks protesting) Andrea and asked her to join me for breakfast (yep, breakfast, not lunch) she's been helping me with a couple of projects that need to be tidied up... 8am I suggested.  Then as if I was trying to be cruel and miserable I asked dear Nick to meet me at 9am... wanted to talk to him about a couple of projects that we've been bouncing around.  I don't know why I made the poor man get out of his bed that damn early... I mean for the love of God, I'm unemployed... noon is a much better time to meet and greet folks.  As always, Nick was a gentleman and put up with my awful meeting time and we did get a couple of things ironed out. I was given my marching orders and set out to bug a few other people get some calls made... which I did.  I find that making phone calls in the am means that I'll get returned calls in the afternoon. So the rest of the week will be making calls and hopefully getting responses... and not bothering Nick at the crack of dawn... ha

I mean, we gotta get things moving forward folks...

Speaking of getting things moving... Kendall and our SoGoPro Street Team have been working on the http://sogoprostreet.blogspot.com/ - monthly awards, weekly interviews and a brilliant range of fan contributions.  What amazing support and encouragement!

Onward,

kt

Interesting read. Maybe have time to relax and enjoy being jobless as of now. Take time on pleasures like listening to the Rush band  and is going to be at the NY State Fair! Not Rush Limbaugh, thank heavens, but the BAND Rush. They're playing the entire Moving Pictures album on their current tour. It would surely diminish every anxieties you do have.

Wow, you sure move fast! This was only one day after becoming "unemployed." I can't imagine what crazy busy things your doing now! Im sure that just like Niamh said, being "unemployed" wont leave you with to much free time on your hands. You definitely are one of those get up and go type, who just can not still still doing nothing for long. I hope though that you find sometime to take a breather inbetween your busy schedule! Hope all is well!!!

Oh, I always love reading your blogs. I'd almost suggest that you'd use your recovery time to actually recover from working so hard. But I believe you'll always find people/ work to keep you busy ;p Hope you're doing well!

I agree with Alina! There's no way that you can't have superhero blood in your system and still be working as hard as you do, KT! I appreciate all your hard work and SoGoPro is very lucky to have you!...Also, thanks to our wonderful SGP Street Team for doing so much to support Southern Gothic Productions! :)

Ashley :)

Wow your first day off and you're right at it.  You must be pumped with superhero blood or something.  After a hectic time I usually tend to have a one day 'breather'.

Ah Kendall is doing a fabulous job.  Love all the street teamers contributions.

I love reading the blogs on this site :) I would totally wake my friends up at early hours of the day also...I'm an early morning person. Maybe it's from excitement because you're starting a new venture? Eh, I don't know!

The SGP Team blog is so much fun to read (and help out with!) and I'm loving everything that's going on right now. Thanks for the updates KT! -Lissy

I somehow doubt "unemployment" will leave you with too much time on your hands, but hope you get a chance to relax at some point :).
